156 / TORRID'S NEW LOOKBOOK: TRUE ROMANCE

This morning Torrid released the lookbook images from their latest collection True Romance, said to be full of romantic silhouettes and lots of lace. I was pleasantly surpised that instead of just releasing the collection on the site, this time they’ve put together 10 outfits featuring items in the collection to help give you ideas on ways to wear them. I’m always open to things like that plus I love seeing plus models work it for the camera.

I see that Torrid is stepping up their game in terms of the styling and marketing of their clothes. While many people still have issues with the quality of some pieces, its important to at least style them so that people feel like they NEED them when they see them. That’s what these images accomplish because the first outfit below is definitely my favorite. I actually just purchased that dress and vest (which i want to stud) over the weekend in their big online sale. Oh and I bought the sequin leggings but have yet to wear them! See the rest of the lookbook here!

What do you all think? Do these images pique your interest and make you want to purchase the clothes? Oh and from today (11/19) through Sunday (11/22), get $25 off your purchase of $100, both in-store and online. Use checkout code HOL25OFF100.

126 / FALL INSPIRATION: THE GLAMOUREST LIFE

When most people talk about glamour, old Hollywood images of Marilyn Monroe, hourglass shapes, and soft wavy hair instantly come to mind. I can’t ever see myself glammed out like that so I lean towards a more roughed up version, with a lot more sequins and much shorter hem lines. Distastefully short skirts, opaque tights, and blazers of all kinds, that is my winter default outfit every year. I am always drawn to outfits that border the line of being cute or trashy. This is (sometimes) perfectly executed by Taylor Momsen and (the old) Courtney Love. What can I say, I love a good mess.

My idea of glamour contains sequins, leather, lace, satin, garter belts, faux fur, gold jewelry, black boots, red lipstick, and disheveled hair. So I’ve been scouring the internet, picking out things that I can add to my closet to achieve this look.

077 / TORRID LOVE

I’m finally back to post after an unexpected break from the blog. Sorry guys! Awards show season is coming back around so I was busy, busy, busy for a few days. Things are back to normal now and the shop will launch this coming Monday, definitely!

Photobucket

It has been noted in fatshion blogs all over the web, that Torrid can be hit or miss these days. Lately for me, it had been more miss than anything. However, as fall is approaching the people over at Torrid seem to be trying to make a change for the better. For one, they are releasing ‘collections’ of clothing on a monthly basis and even sprucing up their site with some added features. Now you can shop from their lookbook and create looks of your own that can be shared with others. Not bad, not bad at all!

One of the main gripes with Torrid was that they seemed to hop on trends just a bit too late. However, they got it right with their latest offerings, of which I’ve selected my favorites (above). This season, they’ve jumped right on the dark gothic feel of many of fall 09’s collections and offered us plus sized gals an oppurtunity to steal the spotlight on those weekend night outs.

1. Torrid Pleather Bomber Jacket

2. Torrid Vinyl Cuff Thigh Highs

3. Torrid Silver & Black Hematite Gem Cross

4. Torrid Black Thigh High Lust Boot

5. Torrid Black Ruffle Strapless Bustier

6. Torrid Black Strappy Demi-Cup Teddy

7. Torrid Vinyl Vixen Costume

8. Tripp Black & Purple Buffalo Check Ruffle Mini

9. Torrid Lace Neck Peplum Dress

10. Cast Silver & Black Enamel Cross Ring

11. Silver Textured Disc Ring

12. Charcoal Tweed Peplum Tank Dress

13. Dollhouse Purple Soleil Heel

Now I’ve always loved anything black and rugged but after seeing the new Jay-Z video for “Run This Town” featuring Kanye and Rihanna (below), I am totally inspired! I’m usually not a fan of hers but I have to admit, the looks she’s wearing in this video are so amazing. They were definitely at the front of my mind when browsing the latest looks on Torrid’s site. Who doesn’t want to look like a rough and tough femme fatale commanding an angry mob?
