207 / ANOTHER DOSE OF FIERCE: ON THE RUNWAY…

(FYI, posting has slowed down this week due to the snowpocalyspe that has currently shut down much of the northeast US. There is a great Valentine’s Day posting coming tomorrow though!)

As the kickoff to New York Fashion Week gets closer and my anticipation builds, I figured for this week’s ‘Dose of Fierce’ I’d post images of plus models working it on the runway! There are images from Elena Miro, Monif C, City Chic, Qristyl Frazier and more! Also there are a few videos from City Chic and Elena Miro’s runway shows. Enjoy!

The Lane Bryant/Cacique videos won’t embed but you can watch them on youtube here and here. The runway videos feature Kathy Najimy, Anna Nicole Smith and Mia Tyler!

199 / EVANS SPRING/SUMMER 2010 COLLECTION

It seems as though the internet is all abuzz over the latest teaser images from the Evans Spring campaign and rightfully so. The above image, which was first posted on Young, Fat & Fabulous, shows plus models Amber Tolliver, Britney Vecchio, Crystal Renn, Peeky and Hayley Morley all styled in smokey eye makeup, slicked back hair, skinny jeans and leather and studded denim jackets. Could it get anymore fierce?

This morning while procrastinating on Twitter, I saw that Lauren of Pocket Rocket tweeted about more (not all) images from Evans Spring collection. As I went through the pages of clothing images, my eyes got bigger and bigger. Evans has seemingly touched on many of the top trends for Spring’10 but what I love the most is the fact that its a mashup. Typically most Spring collections are full of floral dresses and bermuda shorts which can get a bit boring year after year. Evans has spiced up the collection with the inclusion of leather vests, sequined jackets, biker jackets, and studded and distressed denim. Can you tell that I’m IN LOVE with the jackets in this collection yet? I really think there is truly something for everyone, no matter what your ‘style’ of dress is. As someone who is usually severely underwhelmed by Spring collections, there are so many things that I want!

I’ve selected a few of my favorite pieces and posted them below. You can see more of the clothes, accessories and even some amazing runway photos featuring Hayley Morley and Crystal Renn modeling the clothing here!

You can see the original sneak peek post that started the frenzy by visiting Deena’s blog, Fat Girl’s Like Nice Clothes Too!

What do you all think of the images? Are you excited?! Let me know!

180 / FINAL SNEAK PEEK: V MAG’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE (SLIGHT NSFW)

The internet is all abuzz over the latest sneak peek from V Magazine’s (Plus) Size issue. The editorial was shot by Karl Lagerfeld, who as we all know is not a fan of ‘curvy’ women in the fashion industry, features burlesque sensation Miss Dirty Martini photographed in the apartment of Coco Chanel. It makes me wonder why he agreed to participate in an issue such as this, with all of the disparaging remarks he’s made about plus size people in the past. Whatever the case is, these photos are absolutely gorgeous and I will be running, not walking, to my local Borders to pick up this issue in exactly 7 days.

Side note: You can totally see her non-retouched body in the side mirror’s reflection in the last photo!

ps. Gabby Sidibe and Dakota Fanning are gracing alternate covers of this issue!

179 / 2009 FATSHION RECAP: THE MOST EPIC FATSHION POST EVER!

Thank you to everyone who agreed to participate in this post! This is, by far, my favorite post!I had this idea back in December, in the midst of the 82186342 ‘Best of 2009’ lists to have a list of my own. I wanted a chance to showcase all the amazing fatshion that has been floating around the internet this year and hopefully inspire others the way I have been. Honestly, I was nervous that no one would participate and it would just be a post of my outfits, and whatever I could force out of my fellow blogging buddies! So I’m happy to say that there were almost 40 participants and almost 200 outfits submitted! Obviously this post will take a bit to load but its so worth it! Below each participant there is a link to their blog or Flickr so be sure to check them out!

ps. I’m thinking of doing a monthly fatshion recap post, so let me know if any of you are interested in participating!

Without further adieu, onto the fatshion!

159 / SNEAK PEEK: EVANS S/S 2010 COLLECTION

Thanks to the amazing Deena of Fat Girls Like Nice Clothes Too!, who was invited to the the Arcadia Group’s spring collection preview event, we all have images from Evans new spring/summer collection to drool over. All I can say is that I am absolutely in LOVE with these preview images and according to Deena, more should be on the way soon!

They have taken s/s 2010’s biggest runway trends and made them in our size. Its rare that a plus size clothing company is so on top of trends, they’re usually a couple months behind everyone else. I really don’t want to gush (okay, I do!) but I’m am so excited! The floral dress, the leather jacket, the denim jacket with studded lapels, the fringe tops, the nude draping, the bandleader jacket… so so AMAZING! I don’t even mind the acid washed skinny jeans with the slashes.

I know I didn’t give any substantial information about the collection but head on over to Deena’s blog to get more photos and information about the collection!

119 / I DIE: GARETH PUGH S/S 2010

I’m sure everyone has that one band/group/artist that you loved since the very beginning. You were there loving them when the rest of the world could care less. Your relationship/bond getting tighter over time. You become protective of that bond when the world finally realizes what its been missing out on. You want them to succeed but to stay true to who and what they are. That perfectly describes my relationship with Gareth Pugh. Everyone has their favorite designer, he is mine.

Following his work from Central St. Martins to runways of London and Paris has been amazing. I’m always extra excited to see his collections because he is one of the designers that has a very distinct vision. He knows what he wants to say and doesn’t water it down to please the “mainstream” fashion world. He makes wearable art, simply put. To some it can be over-the-top and ridiculous but to others, myself included, he’s pretty much a genius.

Over time, he gained mainstream attention and became the darling of the fashion world and consistently put out cool fucking clothes like nothing had changed. I loved him even more for that. I have to admit, seeing pop culture starlets such as Beyonce and Rihanna wear his clothing left a bad taste in my mouth. Only because I didn’t want him to become synonymous with that world. I wanted him to be taken as a serious designer and not end up like the Lindsay Lohan at Ungaro situation. Ugh. To put it bluntly, I didn’t think they could do his clothing justice.

I’m coming to realize that if his latest collection is evidence of the result, I don’t mind sharing him with the rest of the world. This is beyond amazing.

So tell me, do you have a favorite designer? If so, let me know who in the comments!

116 / JUST LAUNCHED: MONIF C FALL COLLECTION

A few weeks ago, I posted the fall 2009 collection of the Monif C Marilyn convertible dresses. Well today, the entire fall line launched and let me tell you, it’s quite fierce. This time, our model is none other than Fluvia Lacerda, who is one of my favorite models, plus or not. The styling of this shoot is giving me everything I need on this rainy Friday afternoon! The big hair, the cat eye makeup, the red lips, the perfectly tanned skin… perfection! Take a look at some of the photos below and tell me what you think!

I ALMOST love the sequin dress. If only it had more a bodycon fit, I’d be all over it. But the zipper trench, swoop dress and zebra dress are all mine! Are there any pieces that you like? Let me know in the comments!

ps. Be sure to check out Monif’s blog as well as her twitter for up-to-date information.

090 / I-D’S SEPTEMBER THRILLER

If you follow me on Twitter, then you’ve no doubt read about my fight with a sudden onslaught of sickness. So if you’ve purchased anything from the store, it will be in the mail this week! Apologies for not updating yesterday, my body was yearning for sleep!

To get back into swing of things, I present i-D magazine’s September editorial “thriller.”  We all know that the September issue of fashion magazines are big deals. Mags often put celebrities on the cover that they know will sell (ie. Jennifer Aniston on US Elle, Charlize Theron on US Vogue, Ashley Olsen on US Marie Claire) and it has long been said that ethnic models don’t sell magazines. Clearly i-D it setting out to prove the industry wrong by featuring not one but FOUR ethnic models. Shot by photographer Emma Summerton, Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez and Arlenis Sosa all bring something different to the shoot. I love the fact that it shows that not all ethnic models are the same and shouldn’t be categorized into having a certain ‘look.’

Below, there is a clip showcasing the behind-the-scenes action of the photo shoot. Have a look and let me know what you think!
