166 / (UPDATED) RODARTE FOR TARGET LAUNCHES TOMORROW!

Back in November, I previewed the upcoming collaboration between Rodarte and Target. The collection officially arrives in stores and online December 20th however, Target is launching pop-up stores in NYC, San Francisco and Washington DC (yayy!) for 3 days only. On December 11 - 13th, items from the line will be available for purchase before the nationwide launch on the 20th.

The PR people from Target have released more (not all) lookbook images from the collection and I’ve posted them below. Many pieces we’ve seen before but there are some new ones added to the mix.

Also just released was a behind-the-scenes video taken by fashion blogger Tavi, who writes Style Rookie. She interviews Kate & Laura Mulleavy and finds out the inspiration behind the line. Watch the video below:

EDITED TO ADD:

Miriam left a comment and I wanted to share it with everyone else because I’m sure there are others that may have questions why I posted about a line that only goes up to XL.

“The clothing is beautiful. But it’s really sort of painful to go to a fatshionista post and see an announcement of a fashion line that doesn’t go above an XL and is modeled by a very tall, thin model.

I get that inbetweenies need clothes too, but… for all of us who aren’t in between, this stuff is as out of reach as a size 0, y’know?”

No I definitely understand your point of view but the reason that I posted this collaboration specifically is because its 90% knitwear, meaning it will stretch to fit sizes way higher than a 14/16. I’m a 22/24 myself and I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to fit in some of the clothes. I’m a firm believer in trying things on because you never know what may or may not work and I hope that the people who read my blog believe that as well. The Topshop dress that I posted the Black Friday post is a size 12 and it fits me, so numbers mean absolutely nothing.

If you all take nothing else from my blog, please remember that one thing. Try EVERYTHING on because you’d be surprised what fits you. Both Gabi of YFF and J of Fatshionable can attest to this.

146 / SNEAK PEEK: RODARTE FOR TARGET

The countdown to December 20th is on. That is when the Rodarte GO International collection arrives in Target stores as well as online. According to a Target spokesperson, the new collection will be “very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering.”

I’ve mentioned my love of Rodarte many times and I am definitely excited for this collection. I haven’t been this interested in a Target collection for a while. The last thing I’ve purchased was a cardigan from the Thakoon for Target collection. Also its worth noting that the GO International collections only go up to XL in all of the pieces, not the usual XXL like Target brands. However, this collection will undoubtedly be full of knit pieces so do not be afraid to try them out!

Below are a few sneak peek images from the collection.

105 / S/S 2010 NYFW REPORT (PART TWO)

There are two collections that I always look forward to during NYFW. One is Marc Jacobs (which I’ll cover later) and the other is Rodarte. Every season, the Mulleavy sisters seem to outdo themselves and they are fast climbing my list of favorite designers. This season’s collection was inspired by Death Valley and the models, as fashionologie put it, looked like goth tribal warriors. There were lots of feathers, zippers, cut-outs and of course intricate knit work, which they are known for. I can honestly say that I would wear every single piece of this collection in a heartbeat. That is how much I am in love with it.

Erin Fetherston was never one of my favorite designers. Her collections were always just a bit too girly and overly feminine for my taste. There’s only so much ruffles and hearts I can take. While this collection is still feminine, Erin has seemed to focus more on the silhouettes this season. There are still ruffles and bows but there seems to be a more structured feeling this season rather then the whimsical and fantastical feeling of prior collections. The navy blue coat with the mesh shirt with the sleeve detailing is gorgeous!

Alexander Wang is the king of effortless chic. His past collections are filled with pieces for the girls that like an edge to their clothes. This collection follows in those footsteps and is filled with a feminine take on sportswear. Full of corsets attached to oversize sweatshirts and quilted leather shorts, its sure to be a hit with the young and hip crowd. I’m not no sure that I’m buying into this collection though. There are some good pieces, highlighted above, but I guess I was expecting something else this time around.

I am loving DVF’s collection this season. There’s a mix of hard and soft going on with an infusion of ethnic chic. The rich colors, the layering, the accessories all make for perfection in my eyes. That yellow dress against Sessilee’s skin color is so divine! Last Spring, DVF experimented with floral headpieces and I wasn’t too fond of them, however, this season, the almost Greek-like headpieces are one of my favorite things about the collection. I also noticed, as Jai did, that there was a good mix of diversity on her runway, and I loved it!

One of the things that I constantly hear from some of my friends when fashion week comes around is that most of the clothes don’t seem that wearable. They are great for the runway but the practicality factor doesn’t seem to have been taken into account. While I disagree, I can understand their point. Rachel Roy is not one of those designers. She constantly provides chic and wearable clothing for the modern woman and this season is no different. Full of clothes for the sophisticated woman who still wants to infuse a bit of sexiness, there were beautifully draped skirts and low cut button up shirts for those who dare to bare. Now I know I’m not one to wear lots of color but that last outfit? I need it!

Now this is one collection that is more of my speed. Leather, mesh, slashes and lots of them! There’s not much that I can say but my eyes were immediately drawn to the slashed white pants. Epic! I also love the paneled jacket and bike shorts (which I noticed on a lot of runways this week). Like Elise Overland, I can appreciate the ss2010 collections that seem as though they were designed for the fall instead.

I was reminded today that for the next THREE WEEKS, it is fashion week in London, Paris and Milan (yay Elena Miro!). Whoa! I’m trying my hardest to keep up but its a bit overwhelming at times lol. I’ll still be updating with fat fashion-related content but as a bonafied lover of fashion, I’ll be covering the runways for the next few weeks.
