127 / MARIE CLAIRE’S NEW ‘BIG GIRL IN A SKINNY WORLD’ COLUMN

Piggybacking off of Glamour’s promise to include more body diversity in the pages of its’ magazine, Marie Claire has joined the party by publishing a new monthly column online called ‘Big Girl in a Skinny World.’ The column is written by Ashley Falcon, a size 18 stylist from Florida. Now I don’t know about you all but I treat fashion stylists like I do hair stylists, they must show and prove! So I did a little bit of digging (read: I googled lol) to see if I could find some examples of her work and what I found was not bad at all.

In her first column for Marie Claire, she tackles the subject of jeans. I thought that the article was good but I was a little disappointed with the fact that she went through lots of jeans but we never got to see it. I thinks its quite beneficial for the audience to see when things don’t work, so that they can understand why they don’t work*. Also, her final selections are just product images of the jeans from their respective websites. That does nothing for us readers. We need to see them on a curvy body. So I’m happy that Marie Claire has taken this step to include plus size women in their magazine but I think that the execution needs a little bit of work. Nevertheless, I will definitely be checking out the column every month!

Since we’re on the topic of jeans, I figured I’d give my opinion. Finding the right pair of jeans is a task that I personally hate doing so I only wear skirts, dresses and leggings. I only wear jeans when I’ve overslept for work, I’m hungover or I am sick. They are usually accompanied by a band hoodie of some kind and a pair of hole-y Chuck Taylors that I’ve had for almost 7 years. In my experience, Levi’s or Tripp skinny jeans work the best for me. I have wide hips so I need a higher rise in my jeans, that’s why I never purchase pants/jeans from Alloy. I also need a longer inseam, at least 34 inches and I hate jeans that have a huge flare. They tend to make my legs look stumpy so I stick to straight leg.

Hahaha please notice these photos are old. I think I dress a bit better these days! Also I find it amusing that these photos were taken on two of the craziest nights of my life (in a good way)! Good times!

So tell me, what jeans do you find work best for you?

(*I fully plan on doing a post on some of my bad outfits. I wear things all the time that in hindsight aren’t that great lol.)
