(FYI, posting has slowed down this week due to the snowpocalyspe that has currently shut down much of the northeast US. There is a great Valentine’s Day posting coming tomorrow though!)
As the kickoff to New York Fashion Week gets closer and my anticipation builds, I figured for this week’s ‘Dose of Fierce’ I’d post images of plus models working it on the runway! There are images from Elena Miro, Monif C, City Chic, Qristyl Frazier and more! Also there are a few videos from City Chic and Elena Miro’s runway shows. Enjoy!
The Lane Bryant/Cacique videos won’t embed but you can watch them on youtube here and here. The runway videos feature Kathy Najimy, Anna Nicole Smith and Mia Tyler!
Due to the massive success of the 2009 fatshion recap post, I decided to do monthly recaps where everyone can send in their favorite outfits from the past month and showcase their fashions! Thank you to everyone who participated this month and if you missed out, look out for the details for the February recap!
180 / FINAL SNEAK PEEK: V MAG’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE (SLIGHT NSFW)
The internet is all abuzz over the latest sneak peek from V Magazine’s (Plus) Size issue. The editorial was shot by Karl Lagerfeld, who as we all know is not a fan of ‘curvy’ women in the fashion industry, features burlesque sensation Miss Dirty Martini photographed in the apartment of Coco Chanel. It makes me wonder why he agreed to participate in an issue such as this, with all of the disparaging remarks he’s made about plus size people in the past. Whatever the case is, these photos are absolutely gorgeous and I will be running, not walking, to my local Borders to pick up this issue in exactly 7 days.
Side note: You can totally see her non-retouched body in the side mirror’s reflection in the last photo!
ps. Gabby Sidibe and Dakota Fanning are gracing alternate covers of this issue!
179 / 2009 FATSHION RECAP: THE MOST EPIC FATSHION POST EVER!
Thank you to everyone who agreed to participate in this post! This is, by far, my favorite post!I had this idea back in December, in the midst of the 82186342 ‘Best of 2009’ lists to have a list of my own. I wanted a chance to showcase all the amazing fatshion that has been floating around the internet this year and hopefully inspire others the way I have been. Honestly, I was nervous that no one would participate and it would just be a post of my outfits, and whatever I could force out of my fellow blogging buddies! So I’m happy to say that there were almost 40 participants and almost 200 outfits submitted! Obviously this post will take a bit to load but its so worth it! Below each participant there is a link to their blog or Flickr so be sure to check them out!
ps. I’m thinking of doing a monthly fatshion recap post, so let me know if any of you are interested in participating!
172 / CURVES AHEAD: 2ND SNEAK PEEK FROM V MAG’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE
A few posts back, we all got our first glance at V Magazine’s ‘One Size Fits All’ editorial featuring Crystal Renn and Jacquelyn Jablonski. The debate over what message the magazine was trying to send was debated for days, its most likely still being debated by some people. Well V Magazine has released a second editorial from the forthcoming issue entitled “Curves Ahead” that is sure to spark up more debate. It features 5 plus models in everything from swimwear to lingerie to denim to a Lady Gaga-esque leotard. The editorial, shot by Solve Sundsbo, is filled with beautiful woman who have hips, thighs, and maybe a little belly pudge and muffin top but they are all working it for the camera. See for yourself.
136 / EDITORIAL: CRYSTAL RENN IN AUSTRALIAN HARPER’S BAZAAR
Since I’ve gotten behind on posting editorials, I decided to post three of my favorite ones back-to-back-to-back. I got all of the images from Every Body is Beautiful, an amazing archive of fashion imagery featuring models sized 10 and over. If you haven’t checked that blog out, you must!
The editorial below features blog favorite Crystal Renn in Australian Harper’s Bazaar, one of my all-time favorite. Crystal is styled in high-end designer clothes that showcase her curves, there is even an image that shows a bit of a bulge! Crystal looks absolutely amazing in these photos. Love it!
135 / EDITORIAL: CRYSTAL RENN IN ELLE ITALIA (SOME NSFW)
This editorial is from the December 2008 Elle Italia magazine that features Crystal Renn in couture. I love when Crystal does high-fashion shoots because her sultry look is a perfect fit.
(the below images are posted on the photog’s website)
This editorial features Johanna Dray and appeared in Gala magazine in Paris. I love the vintage feel of the shoot, back when the fleshier women were objects of art pieces. Just amazing.
Plus-size Brazilian model, Fluvia Lacerda, stars in ‘16’, a short film that challenges the stereotypes of beauty currently set by the film, fashion, and advertising industries. The film is a departure from the norm, as Lacerda is a size 16, rather than the usual size 2.
“Today women think they must fit unachievable molds in order to feel beautiful and sexy”, says Lacerda. “As a curvy woman I have always felt sexy under my skin and this film carries that very message, a message I hope will open people’s minds with regard to how diverse beauty can be.
This provocative film is directed by Mark De Paola, a fashion photographer and director whose portfolio includes Armani and DKNY. Lacerda has modeled for Torrid, Fashion Bug, and Biluzik. In ‘16’ she is shown in the shower, wearing lingerie, and then walking in an evening gown.
The two-minute film was commissioned by IGIGI, a women’s size 12+ fashion apparel retailer. ‘16’ is the first film to be created and produced by a plus size women’s fashion company.
“IGIGI’s philosophy is that every woman deserves to feel beautiful” says IGIGI’s founder and designer, Yuliya Raquel. “Television and fashion magazines are starting to acknowledge that women who are size 12-plus exist, but ‘16’ goes beyond that. We made this film because we believe that curvy women should not only feel acknowledged, but be celebrated, too. It represents how IGIGI sees women— beautiful, sexy and powerful.”
