180 / FINAL SNEAK PEEK: V MAG’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE (SLIGHT NSFW)

The internet is all abuzz over the latest sneak peek from V Magazine’s (Plus) Size issue. The editorial was shot by Karl Lagerfeld, who as we all know is not a fan of ‘curvy’ women in the fashion industry, features burlesque sensation Miss Dirty Martini photographed in the apartment of Coco Chanel. It makes me wonder why he agreed to participate in an issue such as this, with all of the disparaging remarks he’s made about plus size people in the past. Whatever the case is, these photos are absolutely gorgeous and I will be running, not walking, to my local Borders to pick up this issue in exactly 7 days.

Side note: You can totally see her non-retouched body in the side mirror’s reflection in the last photo!

ps. Gabby Sidibe and Dakota Fanning are gracing alternate covers of this issue!

178 / EDITORIAL: VELVET D’AMOUR’S ISLINGTON GIRL / FASHION INSPIRATION

Featured in this month’s Plus Model magazine is this editorial, Islington Girl, shot by Velvet D’Amour. The shoot features the model in some familiar clothes from Evans  yet they take on a new life with the styling. One of the things that I love most about plus editorials is that most of the clothing is accessible. Its definitely inspiring to see a dress that, at first glance wasn’t that cute, be transformed into something totally different. I don’t think I need to say how much I love the exaggerated shape of the skirt!

This is the type of inspiration I like to see. So while yes, there will always be debates over the size of plus models and if the fat demographic is being properly represented, I just really want to see some amazing clothes/style. Here’s the thing, I’m a 22/24 on bottom and I am just as inspired by a size 14’s outfit as I am by a size 4’s as I am by a size 28’s. I want to be inspired by how others style themselves in clothes. I may not be able to fit the exact same outfit but if I love the look that much I can recreate it in my size (hence the Rick Owens outfit). It takes a bit more effort but its definitely worth it.

Not to harp on Rodarte for Target, just using it as an recent example but true the line only went up to XL. The gorgeous J of Fatshionable (size 16/18) just posted an OOTD in the nude dress from the collection. Stay Classy, LA did a post about tons of plus size options that mimic the Rodarte for Target look. I say all that to say that it can get tedious and sometimes annoying have to dig for cute alternatives to straight size options but to me, that’s the fun part.

What do you all think? Where do you look to for fashion inspiration?

172 / CURVES AHEAD: 2ND SNEAK PEEK FROM V MAG’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE

A few posts back, we all got our first glance at V Magazine’s ‘One Size Fits All’ editorial featuring Crystal Renn and Jacquelyn Jablonski. The debate over what message the magazine was trying to send was debated for days, its most likely still being debated by some people. Well V Magazine has released a second editorial from the forthcoming issue entitled “Curves Ahead” that is sure to spark up more debate. It features 5 plus models in everything from swimwear to lingerie to denim to a Lady Gaga-esque leotard. The editorial, shot by Solve Sundsbo, is filled with beautiful woman who have hips, thighs, and maybe a little belly pudge and muffin top but they are all working it for the camera. See for yourself.

Day 2 Credits:

Styling: Nicola Formichetti
Make up: Frank B (The Wall Group)
Hair: Esther Langham (Art + Commerce)
Models: Candice Huffine, Marquita Pring, Michelle Olson, Tara Lynn (Ford NY), Kasia P (Click)

So what do you all think of the newly released editorial? I know I’m looking forward to January 14th! Can’t wait to see what else they’ll do!

169 / FIRST LOOK: V MAGAZINE’S (PLUS) SIZE ISSUE

You may have recently heard that V Magazine is devoting its January 2010 issue to plus size models. After Glamour’s promise to promote body diversity in it’s pages and the new ‘Big Girl in a Skinny World’ monthly column, Mark Fast’s use of plus models in his Spring 2010 runway show and many other things, it seems as though maybe, just maybe, the fashion world is starting to take notice. With the average size of American women being size 14, consumers have spoken out against unrealistic beauty standards set forth by the glossy pages of fashion mags. While only time will tell if Glamour’s new pledge will jumpstart a similar movement in other publications, V Magazine has joined in.

Today, images from the Terry Richardson editorial ‘One Size Fits All’ popped up on the internet. The spread showcases models Jacquelyn Jablonski and Crystal Renn styled and posed in an identical manner and absolutely trashes the notion that clothing looks better on thinner bodies. Crystal is definitely holding her own and much like my girl @huny said on twitter - “Plus size model Crystal Renn makes this skinny model look downright boring” - I couldn’t agree more.

I’m actually really excited for this issue to hit newsstands because V Magazine always has amazing photography and editorials. Always. I’m sure this issue will be no different.

165 / EDITORIAL: CRYSTAL RENN ‘FANTASY LAND’ ELLE CANADA JAN 2010

Are you guys ready to kill me yet? I’ve been totally SWAMPED and not able to update much in the past week and a half. In order to get back into the swing of things, here’s Crystal Renn featured in an 18-page editorial in Elle Canada January 2010 issue. Most know, I love me some Crystal and these pictures exemplify why. She is simply stunning. A lot of people may complain about her “overexposure” but I don’t think they’re realizing some of the doors that she’s helping to further break down. She’s cementing herself as not only a plus supermodel but a supermodel period.

136 / EDITORIAL: CRYSTAL RENN IN AUSTRALIAN HARPER’S BAZAAR

Since I’ve gotten behind on posting editorials, I decided to post three of my favorite ones back-to-back-to-back. I got all of the images from Every Body is Beautiful, an amazing archive of fashion imagery featuring models sized 10 and over. If you haven’t checked that blog out, you must!

The editorial below features blog favorite Crystal Renn in Australian Harper’s Bazaar, one of my all-time favorite. Crystal is styled in high-end designer clothes that showcase her curves, there is even an image that shows a bit of a bulge! Crystal looks absolutely amazing in these photos. Love it!

123 / GLAMOUR’S SUPERMODELS WHO AREN’T SUPERTHIN

If you’ve noticed, I’ve totally stayed away from the Glamour magazine discussion. That’s not to say that I don’t have an opinion on it but I really only wanted to post the photos of the seven amazing plus-size models that were featured. Pictured in the magazine are Crystal Renn, Kate Dillon, Ashley Graham, Amy Lemons, Anasa Sims, Jenny Runk and Lizzie Miller.

What do you guys think? Do you think that Glamour will actually come through on their promise to include more body diversity in their magazine? Do you think this is just for publicity? Let me know in the comments!
