191 / REVIEWING ASOS CURVE

Technology is amazing. From a simple tweet sent out from a member of Team ASOS, I was able to be a part of the launching of the newest ASOS range. As everyone knows, I am an avid ASOS fan and it seemed like my entire Fall 2009 trend alert report consisted of pieces from them. So when I got wind of them expanding to include a plus range, my heart almost stopped. Fat girls are on the come up!

When the package arrived this past Friday, it was like Christmas all over again. I’ve never been more excited to receive a package. I was sent six pieces; two dresses, a mac, a pair of jeggings and two shirts, all reviewed below.

First up is this gorgeous empire-waist printed dress. My eyes were immediately drawn to the vibrant pattern. Although I prefer to dress in black, the designer in me loves everything colorful. There’s a mix of black and white polka dots and diamonds with colorful flowers all over. The flowers have a hand-painted look to them and I love that. There’s elastic under the bust and the rest of the dress flows out from there. Its lightweight so it’d be perfect for Spring weather. This is definitely my favorite piece!

Next is this striped navy and white shirt. Some may stray away from horizontal strips but I embrace them. This shirt has everything I love in shirts - its soft on the skin, lightweight and somewhat see-through but not really. Its well ventilated yet you’re still covered. Its a basic that you can never have enough of.

This dress was actually included in the sneak peek images I posted last week. Its also lightweight has three gold buttons on both sides of the skirt. They can be unhooked and the result is just two short open slits on the side. It also comes with a belt that can tied either in the front or back. I really like the length of the dress and think it looks much better without tights. So when the weather permits, this will be one of my wardrobe staples.

This gray shirt is perfection! As Gabi mentioned, its so hard to find a good slouchy shirt for fat girls. This one fits the bill exactly. Its soft, a bit oversized and it drapes exceptionally well. It also has two see-through panels in the front which adds a bit of sexiness to it. I hope this shirt comes in many different colors because its that amazing.

Next we have a pair of jeggings which are a combination of jeans and leggings. I usually stay away from such combinations because they just seem to be too weird. However, I’ve heard from others that ASOS makes some great jeggings so I’m glad they’ve been added to the Curvy range. I don’t usually wear jeans often but that will change. These are so ridiculously comfortable. There’s no struggle to pull them up, there’s no muffin-top, they even have front and back pockets! Another thing is that I’m 5’11 and most jeans don’t have long enough inseams for me. These bunch at the bottom, so they’re definitely tall-friendly. This jean + legging combination is one that I approve of!

Lastly, we have this navy Mac. I love the flared shape of this jacket! The shoulders also have a bit of poofiness to them that adds a nice touch. The big gold buttons and the pockets take this into must-have category for me. Its lightweight but has lining in it so even on those breezy days, you’ll still be fine. This is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, in my opinion.

(As a sizing reference, everything above is a UK24 except the jeggings which are UK26. I wear a US22/24.)

From what I’ve seen so far of the line (and it admittedly hasn’t been that much, maybe 10 pieces or so), I’m really excited. Everything is of good quality and there hasn’t been any fit issues to speak of. I’m anticipating seeing the entire collection this Friday and I’ve heard that it contains maxi dresses, more flirty day dresses, edgy leather jackets and more!

A lot of people were underwhelmed by the preview, but seeing and trying some of the pieces, I know this line won’t let me down. Thank you to Ilana and Amy at ASOS for involving with the preview! I definitely appreciate it and can’t wait to see the rest!
